2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Monday of Appreciation!

My first MoA post was posted on the 20th of September 2021, two years. Time really flies, huh? I don't want this to be just another MoA 100 post, but I really gotta thank you all, especially because Part 100 received so much love, God, it made me so happy <3 It was a kinda cathartic moment, the series had an epic peak... all thanks to you.

I definitely also want to thank all the writers, without whom this all wouldn't exist. My way of thanking you all is by... featuring a FUCKTON of stories below. 1. How many works do you have on AO3? 

147. I’ve been here nearly 6 years, some years more prolific than others. 

2. What's your total A03 word count?

Right now, just shy of 2M: 1,937,496, to be exact

3. What fandoms do you write for?

BBC Sherlock and ACD Sherlock

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Synchronicity Date Night A Chronic Condition The Wedding Gift Blank Slate Wooing Sherlock Holmes has recently moved up and is close enough to nudge its way to number 5.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always, even if it’s just to say thank you. I appreciate comments, often feel humbled by the compliments people give. It just feels right to respond. (Maybe if I were getting hundreds of comments a day, I would have to rethink that.)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Either Below Zero or The New Gardener. Both have MCD, but sort of a soft landing. Also Learning the Heart and The Real You, but those also have endings that mitigate the angst, a bit.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I write a lot of happy endings; it’s my preferred resolution.  My choice: The Short Tragic Death of John Watson. John does NOT die, but there’s a very cheesy happy ending that made many readers scream.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No. A couple rude comments, but no intentional hatred.

9. Do you write smut?

Not much. I don’t write PWP, but include a sex scene where the plot seems to need it. I'm not opposed; it's just not my usual.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I’ve written two GO/Sherlock stories: Limbo and Hell and Back. I’ve written stories that borrow from other fandoms, but are not exactly crossovers. The closest to a crossover would be Serendipity, which borrows plot from the movie. I’ve borrowed from movie and book universes to make an original story (Eye of the Storm, A Chamber to be Haunted, Do No Harm), and I’ve borrowed premises (The Real You)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

About 60 of my fics have been translated, most of them into Russian, a couple into Chinese, on into Spanish. 

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. 

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Sherlock Holmes/John Watson

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The Secret of Agra: a post-Reichenbach fic that I started in 2020. It has been through several transformations. I rarely give up permanently on a story, though. A few have grown into something new that I ended up posting. I expect I'll finish this when inspiration strikes me.

16. What are your writing strengths?

The things readers most often compliment me on: 

Character voice and emotions.  

World building. 

Versatility: historical fiction, case fics, science fiction, fantasy, rom-coms, etc.

Making readers cry.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes. In Greek tragedy you simply have a character enter and describe the murder that’s just occurred offstage. In fanfiction, that’s a nope. And you have to think out every move, make the scene visual. I admire writers who make this seem effortless. (That's you, @discordantwords !!!) Description: finding non-cliche ways to describe things/people without making it weird and overly fussy.  Being too minimal: I am not a wordy writer; minimalism was how I was taught, but sometimes I need to be wordier.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I’ve done bits of this, but only in languages I’ve studied. I have a degree in Latin, and have used that in couple stories: A Demon's Tale, Accidental Magic. 

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The first and only fandom I’ve posted in is Sherlock Holmes (ACD and BBC). I don’t have any plans to move. I used to write original fiction, but have found fanfiction so much more rewarding.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

This is hard to answer. Last Envoy is the story I’m most proud of.  I write the stories I want to read, and I do re-read a number of them, some more than others. My favorite fic written in 2023 is The Traveller.

the x files season 7 ficlet, 500 words, angst

I’m bad at titles. I guess this falls under “If Mulder’s brain disease was real, why did he hide it from Scully?”

Note: I don’t really have an opinion about Mulder’s Brain Disease as a plot point; treat this as canon-adjacent or canon-divergent as it suits you.

It is hopeless, the doctors say, hopeless, his contacts agree, and he tries and tries to find his own solution - he will not give up - but hopeless is all he finds. They've seen so much, survived so much, he has put her through so much, and coming to the other side of all things to this place that is theirs is so new. No one ever said life was fair.

He remembers what it was to watch her dying. The helplessness, the anger, the desperation as a placeholder for soul-rending despair yet to come. He doesn't want that for her. He doesn't want her scouring journals, sleeping in labs, crying in the shower where she thinks he cannot hear.

She'll be furious when she finds out, he knows; she'll be furious and hurt and might never forgive him. But if this is all they have, he wants to make it count. Whether she suffers a long, drawn out goodbye over the space of months or whether she's furious for the space of weeks or days, he wants her to have something to look back on. He wants to leave her with good memories, happy memories. Something more than bitter regret for how long they took in getting here.

And so he tells her not to worry. To read her journals, work on her manuscripts. Dine with her mother. I'll check it out, he says, and I’ll call you if it's worth our time. And he does. Week after week, he does. He picks cases that are interesting, mysterious. Things that will tease at their shared curiosity and challenge their shared intellect. Things that will let them laugh, and explore, and have fun in that easy way they've so rarely experienced since their first year, since he and Deep Throat drew her into the Syndicate's crosshairs and loss became the third constant companion in their partnership.

He takes her to Huntington Beach, to Smith Mountain Lake, the Shedd Aquarium, a side trip to Nashville and some truly outstanding chicken. He finds reasons to take her west, and if he accidentally drives a little too far south down I-5 while she's napping and lands them in spitting distance of San Diego, well, it'd be a shame to waste the serendipity of an unexpected lunch with her sister-in-law and nephew. He can always finish the paperwork and meet her after.

He kisses her under the same stars in a dozen different states and watches her bloom, no longer the green and puppyfat kid from Quantico but once again graced with her easy smiles and goofy laugh. He takes a picture or two for Maggie, so that when it's all over and he breaks her daughter's heart, she'll know he did his best, that it wasn't all a waste, that for a while, he made their girl happy.

She'll be furious when she finds out, and he feels terribly guilty, but guilt is not a new companion, and her smile could rival the sun.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

The fact that he's ambidextrous is really really amazing as a character. Not only he wields two weapons but also can constantly switching between right and left handed side in the midst of a battle.

And I be honest, the fact that Monsta keep that movie 1 white hairline glitch as canon is what people called a "Serendipity" or happy accident. Another serendipity glitch in animation media for me is the iconic nose touch scene from httyd 1.

Who knew this bug could become his sole identity? It doesn't lesser his image but it does made 10x better as the result of a genetic mark within generations. Thus it creates "the Butterfly Effect" in designing Amato and adult Tok Aba.

In sense, Oboi become a shonen character since child with that look lol

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

I don't follow much with what happened to Boboiboy's fandom recently, still making me a headache whenever I visit, but I always appreciate when fandom united to correct blatant hoaxs. It's often surprised me.

Oh and memes lol. Screenshot memes whenever new episode arrived is a never not entertaining cus it was usually flooded in my timeline. 🤣

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

Since I only made headcanon for elementals, I think it's not fair that the real main protagonist has not yet get his headcanon. My bad :p

Oboi may or may not able to make a clear communication with Amato after all these years and I have two scenarios:

If Tok Aba still alive, Oboi might be more comfortable and more open to Tok Aba about his daily life rather than Amato. He still talks to him, but struggles to keep up a simple conversation from both ways, and eventually Oboi starts to make excuses to end it by "Helping Atok at his shop".

If no. 1 doesn't happens, Oboi might a bit cold to Amato at first. He try so hard to avoid any conversations with him and just focus on continuing the Kokotiam Shop as an escape route.

One of my questions regarding him, "How does he remember every events during split/fusion/3rd tier?" My deduction to this headcannon is this: firstly after he wakes up all memories will be blur due to his dizziness in the aftermath. He might remember some of it but his brain is not yet fully capable to comprehend all of it quickly. Then, all those event will be shown during his sleep. It sometimes disturbing his sleeping schedule and wakes up abruptly in the middle of night from a lucid dream.

Idk why, but between Audio sensory, Visual sensory and Action sensory Learning technique. Oboi is the person who learn and solve problems by practice it in real time. He may not the guy who absorb a quick information, but when he tried to think about it, he implements his thoughts by action such as moving hands or walks around. (I onced very obsessed with psychology especially with self learning types during my high school days but now I forgot most of them lol)

He has a hidden fanatic side of him all over the news as a hero with the evidence of all his photos from movie 1. He might eventually remove them when he gets older. He doesn't want to admit his embarrassment with his obsession publicly lol. (Of course he treasure it somewhere )

I forgot where's the source of it, but I read a post that Oboi once tried to cut his white stroke hair but it grew back. He never knew why but he eventually let it be afterwards. Maybe he wears that hat not only as a gift from his dad but also to cover his white hair? Idk :-\

That's maybe all headcanons I got so far. I guess I'll admit I might need to dig for more Boboiboy magazines and older post of his social media ones. There's still so many trivias that I missed throughout my life. :(

Spring was turning around the corner and somehow Namjoon’s life felt dull and bloomless still. 

He had been strolling aimlessly all Saturday, thinking if he should take a break from his job starting Monday. Or maybe just run away from his manager for a while. Do something else with his life. Go to another country, and live a brand new adventure. That’s how he came to know the little vintage library tucked on the corner of a busy street—because of his equally busy brain and restless feet. 

There was no one inside besides him, a kind-eyed grandpa behind the counter, a calico cat, and tons of dusty books—just how Namjoon liked them. And yet the books weren’t what he felt pulled toward to inspect. 

On top of two piles that were flooding the floor, there was a ham radio. The aged equipment had a collection of space stickers adorning it which only contributed to filling Namjoon’s brain with nostalgia and fond memories. A long time ago, when he was still a kid, he got to know about the existence of such a radio. Later on, it resulted in tons of questions about its functioning, something that his Physics teacher was eager to provide the answers to. 

He heard the old man clearing his throat snapping him off his down-to-memory-lane trance. “If you like it so much I’m more than happy to see it go.” 

Namjoon had to double-check on the smiley grandpa behind the old wooden structure. It was a fact that he would be glad to display the device around his house next to the art he collected… It was inspiration after all. Something to connect him with his inner child, even if the equipment wouldn’t work anymore. But not a week ago his mom teased about his house looking like a science fair museum and he wouldn’t want to contribute to that statement. “How much for it?” he asks while pondering and the elder dismisses his offer, going around on the counter. 

“Oh no. That one isn’t priced,” he said as he approached with some difficulty. “I would be glad to see it go to a new home after so many years!” 

“Are you sure?” Namjoon asks and then looks at the device. “It’s a relic now, sure, and that’s why it should have its price…” he regarded, feeling bad to take the offer without paying something to the old man. 

The grandpa let out a chuckle, eyeing him with fondness. “And that is precisely why I’m giving it to you.” he continued with a look that told Namjoon he had already lived plenty to know what he was talking about. “Everything goes, son. But it’s when you know the value of things that you are considered worthy enough to keep ‘em.” he gave Namjoon a gentle tap on his broad shoulders before turning around, “Take it. It was already yours, to begin with.” 

Namjoon went home that Saturday with a ham radio underneath his arm and a little paper bag holding an old edition of The Unbearable Lightness Of Being by Milan Kundera. A book that he had already read many times before but upon the gentleness of that stranger, it seemed the right thing to do or the right price to repay.

Not a real person but a Biblical figure my mum once memorably described as "the person who invented sex." (You can probably figure out my name now...)

I am pregnant so I am crying constantly at the moment. I cried throughout the Barbie film yesterday!

Do you have kids?

Just the one currently underway.

Do you use sarcasm?

Rarely.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

I don't know if it's necessarily the first thing I notice, but I've always thought people's shoes are quite revealing.

What’s your eye color?

Brown.

Scary movies or happy endings?

Not a big fan of either. If I had to choose, I'd probably go for happy endings but they have to be well earned and not trite.

Any special talents?

I don't really have any party trick-type talents anymore. When I was a teenager, you could give me a series, episode, scene and line number of any episode of Red Dwarf I-VI and I could tell you the line.

Where were you born?

In a ward for especially young and especially old mothers (my mother was the latter) in a hospital in London, England.

What are your hobbies?

Nothing very serious. I draw a bit, although not enough; I do a bit of baking and I'm half-heartedly attempting to learn Russian. Very occasionally (like, every 5-7 years), I write some fanfic.

Have any pets?

No, I travel too much. I used to have some African pygmy hedgehogs (hence my profile pic), but sadly couldn't bring them with me when I moved from the UK to France six years ago.

I am the world's least sporty person and I hate competition! I have been doing yoga regularly for more than ten years though.

Dream Job?

I wish I knew. For a long time I thought I wanted to work in media production, then I tried it and realised I don't like the constant stress, long hours and big egos (though I do still see the appeal). Since then I've been vaguely pursuing academia as I like analysing stuff and hanging out with students (mostly), but I've never really properly tried to get a full-time, permanent academic job cuz deep-down I'm scared of the workload, especially the constant stacks of marking.

So after letting it shimmer for a while, some reasons why the Ted Lasso finale didn't quite land for me:

- I get what they were trying to do with Roy and I thought the message was beautiful, BUT I feel like they shoud've shown his 'relapse' in a more subtle way. Having him get into a physical fight with Jamie, after all they've grown, didn't feel right to me.

-Also the whole "we're letting YOU choose" thing felt uggggg. I wouldn't mind it if they'd spent a whole episode adressing it, but it was not something to just toss into the finale and run.

-Maybe this is the Keelroy shipper in me, but I feel it's a bit of a waste that they spent 2 seasons developing a relationship that was flawed, yes, but still it was one of the healthiest and most wholesome m/f ships I've seen, and then not give them proper closure. I feel like Roy and Keeley shoud've had at least 1 truly positive and heartfelt scene together in the finale. Even if it were only Roy saying that, after all, he's not ready yet to be in back in a romantic relationship, and they hug it out.

(Honestly, Roy's arc this season shoud've been entirely about accepting that he is enough and that he deserves love and happiness even when he doesn't perform perfectly, and have him spend the final episode basking in that love and happiness. But I would've taken the aforementioned option as well)

- Keeley was barely in the episode, she barely said goodbye to Ted, and she didn't get to voice her own view on her feelings about the bloody love triangle (other than "get out of my house you jackasses"). Overall her arc has had great moments but it has felt all over the place this season.

- Beard and Jane. Enough said.

- It was great seeing Sam playing for Nigeria at the end, but honestly, they shoud've devoted a whole episode to dealing with the aftermath of the attack to his restaurant and closing his storyline with Edwin Akufu.

-I expected a bit more of the Ted-Nate reunion. I understand that after a whole year to process and forgive, Ted wasn't angry anymore, but still. That was one of the most important relationships in the show and deserved more screentime for closure.

-In general, I personally would've liked more Nate. Maybe one last genius strategy for the road.

(As I said before, this shoud've been 2 episodes to fit in proper goodbyes for everyone.)

-Ted should've cried as much as Rebecca in the airport. It would've shown that he's gotten better at accepting and expressing negative emotions. And it just felt wrong to me to see him so dissaffected while Rebecca was going through the 7 stages of grief.

-The reapperance of the Dutch Guy felt a bit tonally off in respect to the rest of the episode. They were going for a subversion of tropes of the genre and a vibe of "real life is not like stories, sometimes the perfect happy ending isn't possible and that's fine" with all the other storylines, and then...then they go and pull off a rom-com deus ex machina, "destiny" or "serendipity" brought them back together, with Rebecca. It felt weird to me (though I never quite warmed up to the Dutch Guy, so I may be biased).

-As sad as it makes me, and as much as I love found families, Ted going back to Kansas to be with Henry made sense. He clearly missed his son, and making a kid leave his school and his friends and all that's familiar when there's another option it's just harsh. HOWEVER they could've shown that Ted was still part of the life of the Richmond crew and viceversa. They could've shown him facetiming with them while they were at Higgins' barbacue, for example.

(I didn't get the vibe that he got back together with Michelle, just that they are co-parenting? But if they'd gotten back together my answer would be NO)

Anyways. It's been a good run. I love this show and overall I've really enjoyed season 3. Headcanons and fix-it fics can deal with the rest.

FAMILY HISTORY: Zero is the youngest of three children. He was born in a supportive family and each member is talented in their own way. Zero had a happy childhood for the most part; being the youngest he was protected and spoiled but also taught to be compassionate and humble but sometimes, he does get a bit stubborn. Zero has two older brothers, Saam [three in Thai] and Sky [nickname is literal translation of the name] and they got along growing up. They were very popular in high school and also in their university. Everyone in Zero’s father’s family side went to the same high school and university and had always held a place and popularity in these establishments. Zero, along with cousins, were one of the youngest in their family that attended the uni and reaped the benefits of carrying their last name. Zero exceled academically and also in sports. Many of his juniors looked up to him and although he realized that it was an honor to be in such position as he did, he felt that the attention and popularity was also due to his inability to speak. Did they pity him? He had many friends but often time, he preferred being along and spent his weekends doing his own thing instead of hanging out like other people his age. Zero had been gripped by a deep loneliness that he believed is beyond the many concerns that he currently possess... Since he graduated, Zero has been working at Amarin Media Group in the company's production department, working on ads/commercials for big brands in Thailand and other neighboring countries. Despite not being able to speak, Zero is a good communicator and was able to prove that he can handl whatever job was given to him. He worked his way up as one of the youngest directors/producers in their department. Although many employees in the company, most of them jealous of what Zero was able to accomplished at a very young age, would say that he got the position and popularity because of his name.

BEFORE HIS REBIRTH: Zero was also known as Kitsanik and sometimes Aput by the Inuits who observed him as he roamed the ocean searching for potential friends and partner. But his inability to communicate with other whales of his kind prevented him to create his own pack, causing him to live alone own his own as no whale ever heard his call out to them. 

ROMANTIC HISTORY: Zero had been linked to various people but he never had a serious relationship. He felt many people who wanted to date him only liked him because of his popularity or they show interest in him because they pity him.

1) wouldn't have it any other way — relatively short and a quick read, fun banter, pretty cute 2) keeping count — my emotional distress fic (to quote a bookmark a reader made). it packs a punch 3) dragon song — surprised that the novel-length one is this high on the list!! wow people really managed to read that one huh 4) the best way to put together me (will you and i make a breakthrough) — baby's first (finished and published) fic, and it shows. made it to this list by virtue of being posted in the relatively early days of the fandom lol (i suppose it's still decent enough) 5) you are my delightful intruder — direct sequel to breakthrough, so i guess it makes sense to see it here right after it

5. Do you respond to comments? yes! well, 99% of the time. a couple of times i've gotten a comment and went like "huh. ok. i have literally nothing to say. even a thank you would feel weird in this context" and not replied

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? a shadow of a memory aka hurt no comfort bad end au!! i know such a string of words may sound very unappealing but it's a good fic!!

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? uhhhhh......... i'm a sucker for happy endings (asoam notwithstanding) so i really can't say. i'm gonna go with the most self-indulgent answer and say certainty 👍 nothing happier than self-discovery (and smooches) (but there are also so many that have them getting engaged/being married by the end so. you know)

Do you get hate on fics? nope *knock on wood* (speaking of certainty, the reason i put off finishing it was because i had a very vivid dream about getting doxxed and death threats for having bad headcanons and it genuinely freaked me out for a while. good thing nothing like that happened in reality)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? nope. not my cup of tea. i barely read it, either. sorry for being both ace AND boring

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? no, unless you count the translating i have to do myself for every fic i write (tough EFL speaker life 😔👊)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? the very first fic i wrote was written round-robin style with a friend nearly 20 years ago! we never published it (thank the stars). after that, nope.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will? everything in my wip folder.............. the one posted wip, heart as a compass (soulmate au), is on hiatus but i keep thinking about it. if only it wasn't 100k+ words long. that's too much!! ain't nobody got time for that (that includes both me and any potential readers)!!! out of the unposted ones i have to say serendipity (time travel au), which!! man!!! i have the setup, i have the romance, i have the fun little bits that appeal to me specifically and make me feel like a genius, i have the slowburn and the yearning and the delicious impossibility of it all, but. the plot. what is it. why is the time travel needed. i still don't know. also yet-unnamed champion!raihan au. i think about that one a lot, too. mostly the romance part and how it would be different when only one of them is a public figure. again, i'm missing the actual plot. every time i try to think about how the story of the games would pan out in this setting, i just skip straight to the end and start daydreaming about the role-switched post-eternatus hurt/comfort instead lol

What are your writing strengths? a background in linguistics and generally just. reading a lot i guess. learning by observing, absorbing everything. understanding the rules and techniques of prose. knowing where to look for guidance when you get stuck with something language-related. that sort of thing

17. What are your writing weaknesses? perfectionism. also the fact that i """have""" to write in english. this combo means that it takes a lot of work and effort! and i hate work and effort!! (anyone want to learn a globally insignificant and allegedly very difficult language that is 100% useless unless you want to live here so i could simply write in my first language and not have to deal with my nemesis (affectionate), i.e. the english language)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? if it makes sense in the narration and context, why not. not something i have personally had to deal with as a writer
